Two of the Chicago area’s most brilliant and virtuosic musicians, Matthew Oliphant and Rachel Velvikis, band together in a program that shines a spotlight on the magnificent French Horn. Performing Beethoven’s Sextet for Two Horns and String Quartet, Ligeti’s haunting Trio for Violin, Horn and Piano, and Brahms’ stunningly lyrical Trio for Violin, Horn and Piano in E-flat major, the horn players will be joined by violinists Eleanor Bartsch and MingHuan Xu, and pianists Winston Choi and Liang-yu Wang.

CMOTF favorite and pianist extraordinaire Liang-yu Wang will be the featured soloist in Czeck composer Leoš Janácek’s Capriccio for Piano Left-Hand and Chamber Ensemble. Paul Hindemith’s beautiful Morgenmusik for brass ensemble and Igor Stravinsky’s expressive and playful Octet for Wind Instruments, conducted by Mark Fisher, will round out this program of 20th century masterworks.
