Brass, Winds, and Piano Come Together in March Concerts

This month, Chamber Music on the Fox will bring its largest concert of the season to the stage: Capriccio. Named in honor of the centerpiece composition, Leoš Janácek’s Capriccio for Piano Left-Hand and Chamber Ensemble, this concert will celebrate the contributions of three of the 20th centuries’ most masterful composers. Capriccio itself is a fascinating work of music, with a solo for the pianist in the left-hand part, and layers of sound with flutes, trumpets, and euphonium. Paul Hindemith’s beautiful Morgenmusik, a tribute to the medieval tradition of greeting the sunrise each day with trumpets, will showcase some of Chicago’s finest brass players. Stravinsky’s Octet for Wind Instruments is a celebration of winds, and includes bassoon, clarinet, and flute playing alongside trumpet and trombone. With these three pieces on the program, audiences can expect an engaging and thrilling sound experience.
